Race Event

yas v8 400 abu dhabi | 2-4 Nov 2012

Event details

This year’s YAS V8 400 will be held at the 2012 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi GP, making the first time a points-paying V8 Supercars Championship event has been held on the same weekend as a Formula 1 World Championship event given the Albert Park races in Melbourne are not part of the championship. It will also be the first time the V8 Supercars have raced on the full 5.5-kilometre Grand Prix length circuit after using a 4.7km version for the last two events.

2011 Review

The Abu Dhabi event kicked off the new season and Jamie Whincup led 41 of the 43 laps to win, clear of an impressive Alex Davison and Mark Winterbottom.

Reigning champ James Courtney found himself with a 50-point penalty for contact with Jason Bargwanna but bounced back in the second race to win his first race for the Toll Holden Racing Team. Pitted in a fuel conservation battle with Jason Bright, it was Courtney’s first win in a Holden.

A multi-car accident on the first lap of the second race - triggered by Tony D’Alberto – wiped out three cars including Garth Tander.

An irate Lee Holdsworth confronted Ford Performance Racing’s new signing Will Davison’s post-race after the two collided on track.
